A number of people seem confused about how to get started in this pack due to Iguana's Tweaks which disables vanilla wooden pickaxes and some other objects, changes flint drops, and alters the mining level progression in non-obvious ways. What do you think of a basic HQM quest book that would lead new players through the basics?
Monstrel 9 years ago
I think that would help, the one thing that confused me for a bit was getting gold for casts so in the quest book I think it would be good to mention aluminumbrass as the first thing to find for casts.

Yes please, I may sound like a noob but I have no clue on how to get started in your wonderfull modpack, have been playing creative though wich was kind of entertaining.

Hey I think there was an ore that you either haven't gotten around to adding yet or didn't mean to be there in the first place it has no texture and i believe the id was 1113:5 but i don't believe that right if I encounter it again I'll be sure to post or write down the ID for it before tossing it.

I haven't encountered any worldgen objects with missing textures in my games. Block IDs don't necessarily match from game to game in 1.7.10 either. If you find it, note the ID (not including meta value) and type "/minetweaker name theidnumberhere" in the chat interface. That will provide the internal Minecraft name of the block which will help me find it easily. Thanks!

I found the item again and when i did that it said metallurgy:fantasy.ore
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
Thanks for looking up the item name; that's an ore from Metallurgy and they all have proper textures in my testing and for the players on the server I'm running the pack on. It's a mystery to me why they aren't appearing properly for you. As a first step, I'd try reinstalling the pack, maybe something got corrupted.

I don't think it was corrupted on download because I had a friend download it as well and hes getting the exact same missing item/texture the item number doesn't come up in TMI. Also since I have you for a second I've spent hours trying to figure out how to make another pick after the flint can mine copper since it can't mine gold whats the next pick, and how do i get it? Also I noticed the tin pick hasn't been modified for this pack and all gold says tin level just guessing that's not how it should be please help. xD

I'll try re-installing it though
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
All right re-installed I'll let you know if I see the block again

What you need to do with the flint pickaxe is use it to mine until it gains a mining level. You'll see a tooltip on the pickaxe with detailed information about your skill using it and its mining XP. Each pickaxe can go up one level from its base mining level through experience. That will allow you to mine the next resource in order to upgrade to a better material, at which point you repeat the process. The goal is to provide a more interesting progression and slightly harder early game experience. Incidentally, some folks on my server have been bypassing much of that progression by sifting gravel through a sieve until they get enough of a high end metal to make a high tier pickaxe head that lets them mine all the things. There's still a bit of a grind with that method, but that's mostly from gathering the materials to make a small TC smeltery.

If your texture issue isn't fixed by reinstalling the pack, can you post the contents of your fml-client-latest.log to pastebin or somewhere? That might give me enough to pick out something that's going wrong with your game.
Posted by Monstrel 9 years ago | Modpack Creator
Yeah I'll do that if it isn't fixed
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
So I found the ore again here is a link to the dropbox with fml-client-latest under the logs https://www.dropbox.com/s/4mrtifvg425emqr/fml-client-latest.log?dl=0

I have been over your log file repeatedly trying to find anything that would cause that issue and nothing is jumping out at me. I don't see any warnings about missing textures or anything. The only thing I can come up with is maybe it's because of Java 8. There have been reports of Java 8 incompatibilities, though they're mostly in the context of old versions of Forge not working at all. Metallurgy hasn't been updated in a while, so maybe it has an issue too. Is it possible to install Java 7 and test using that?
Posted by Monstrel 9 years ago | Modpack Creator
However, I have just discovered that I'm using a version of Metallurgy 4 from October because they didn't promote their newer betas on Curse. I'll upgrade Metallurgy for 1.2 which I plan to push out over the weekend and that might fix it also.

Alright I'll hold onto the block to see if that fixes it through the update and I can try installing java 7 to test is.
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
So I tested the idea and the block seems to have disappeared from my worlds entirely, even an empty space where it was in my chests.
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
Never mind found the ore again, no clue why it disappeared from my chests.
Posted by isyther 9 years ago
I believe this your issue is the same as MeneerAstronaut reported above. Those missing texture blocks are supposed to be Atlarus Ore. Unfortunately, they will not update by themselves. Now you know what to replace them with in creative mode, though.

When I load it, I get the startup screen with the MOJANG logo on it, then it'll just send me back to the launcher. I had the same problem with Test Pack Please Ignore

Hi, I can't say what's going on with TPPI, but if you upload your crash log or fml-client-latest.log to pastebin or somewhere, we could probably figure out what's wrong.
Posted by Monstrel 9 years ago | Modpack Creator
Theres no crash log. Nothing shows up between the start screen and the launcher.
Posted by The_Blockcrafter 9 years ago
If you find the directory on your computer where the launcher stores the modpack, which is listed in the modpack config screen in the launcher, you should see a crash-reports folder and a logs folder where the various logs are. Any other details about your system or java version would be useful.

We've been doing some play testing this weekend. Here are some changes planned for the next update: * Change brass smeltery recipe to 3:1 copper:zinc to match Flaxbeard * Allow pistons to be crafted from aluminum instead of iron. * Allow shears to be crafted from aluminum. * Allow Ex Nihilo ore blocks to be melted in a TC smeltery. * Add recipe for Villager Spawn Egg, probably something like a flesh golem and emeralds and a bucket of life essence.

why are the textures not loade correctly?
Thebastard98 9 years ago
Can you please be more specific? No textures were modified in the making of this pack. As far as I'm aware, the only place missing textures should be visible is in certain items in NEI on various mod blocks or items that never appear in game or use custom rendering. If this is what you're referring to I'd take it up with the respective mod authors.
