Robot Rainbow Version 1.19

created by ghohenzollern on Minecraft 1.8.9

A medium-sized 1.8.9 mod-pack with our favorite mods that are available for 1.8.9, Robot Rainbow still has both rainbows and robots!

We balance magic and technology without being too gigantic, with some of the plant breeding and dungeons you are used to. It's something to play with while waiting for the main Rainbow Robot pack to come out for 1.10.2 or above. Included are hundreds (thousands?) of high-resolution textures made by Sarah and me to make our Youtube series and your experience prettier.

Mine and process Base, Modern, Nether and End metal ores with Buildcraft, Steam Engines, EnderIO, IndustrialCraft 2, NeoTech, Geoactivity, Immersive Engineering and Crisscross. Create magics with Cyano's Wands, Botania, Thaumcraft, Evilcraft, Elements of Power, Bloodmagic, Reliquary, Minions, Alchemy Craft 2, Talismans 2 and Aura Cascade. Refine and generate power with Pneumaticraft and Advanced Generators. Explore Afraid of the Dark, Roguelike, Doomlike and Slime dungeons as well as Battletowers and Ruins. Enjoy the decorative and occasionally useful Biomes O' Plenty with Better Foliage. Store it all in Iron Chests or with Quantum Storage, EZ Storage, Extra Utilites 2, or Storage Network. Breed plants with Mr Dimka's Extra Food! Interact with Minecraft Comes Alive villagers and the Grimoire of Gaia. Play with RFtools and Random Things. Oh and UnlogicII has paxels! Yay paxels!

F.A.Q.

How do I get started with the pack or a specific mod?

Check the help section (button link above).

Why aren't all mods textured in high-res?

We planned to texture all the mods in high res, but ran into a limiting factor in minecraft itself that not all mods are able to get around 3/4 of the way through adding mods to the pack. We will add further textures for the mods that can get around it as we figure out which mods those are and are able. Mods not fully textured include Botania, Advanced Generators, Thaumcraft, Immersive Engineering, RFTools and Aura Cascade. Also the Villagers from MCA, beasts from Grimoire of Gaia and Terrariums from Biomes O' Plenty. We had to straight out cut Tinker's Construct from the pack for the same reason. See below for more info. We have now reached the maximum size for working texture packs, but have discovered we can update almost all textures from 16x16 to 32x32 with no problems. We have already done most of Botania and Thaumcraft and are working on others.

Why doesn't Robot Rainbow have my favorite mod X, where X =

Tinker's Construct:

We wanted to include Tinker's Construct in the pack. Minecraft assembles all item and block textures into one giant texture. If that texture is too big, the texture pack fails to load. Some mods use their own system, others piggyback on Minecraft's system. Unfortunately, Tinker's Construct both piggy-backs on Minecraft's system and uses an inordinate amount of texture memory for all the possible tools and parts. Including Tinker's construct would have forced us to remove at least a half-dozen other major mods OR a large number of the high-resolution textures we created for the pack. While we realize Tinker's is the most popular mod in minecraft, we were not willing to make those compromises in order to include it.

Optifine:

We do not have permission to distribute Optifine. We suggest you download the latest version for 1.8.9. We use it with the modpack with basically no problems. In fact we find Optifine makes it more likely that all the high-res texture packs will load.

Pam's Harvestcraft:

Neither of us are excited enough by the variety of food in this mod to put up with the organizational nightmare posed by the variety of food in this mod. In short, it did not make our list.

Minestrappolation / Simply Addons:

We were quite excited at the prospect of including Minestrappolation and Simply Addons in the modpack. Unfortunately the authors have reserved all rights with no caveats that we could find and we were not able to secure permission to distribute them.

Chisel:

Given our initial desire to find or make high-res textures for everything, including Chisel would have introduced far too much work into the project for us to handle.

WAWLA:

Initially the pack had WAWLA in, and if you only intend to use it in a multiplayer environment you may be able to download and install WAWLA with no problems. However, in single-player testing we experienced a number of random and seemingly unrelated crashes and problems loading single player worlds. After much testing, we found these problems went away when we removed WAWLA from the pack.

Archimedes' Ships:

The authors of this mod reserved all rights and we weren't able to get ships to work without crashing the client.

Parcels and Packages:

We were interested in this mod, but the documentation sites on the most important multiblock structure have gone down and not come back up. We couldn't figure out how to use this mod.

MachineMuse's Power Suits:

Adding this mod to our pack created instability we were unable to troubleshoot. Additionally, a substantial number of the JSON recipes were broken rendering many suit upgrades impossible to craft. We also had trouble loading our high-res texture pack with this mod included. We did not have time to solve these issues before going public with the pack.

Project E / Ex Nihilo:

We included these in test-packs as accelerators to allow us to test things more quickly, but never intended to include them in the final pack. While project E is fun, it is too overpowered for a pack we want people to be able to use on public servers, and Ex Nihilo is specifically designed for skyblock modpacks, which this is not.

If your favorite mod is not on this list or in the pack, chances are it is not available for 1.8.9. In any case, the mod list is final. Any suggestions we receive from now on will only be considered for future packs.
