Rainbow Robot for 1.12.2 Version 1.21

created by ghohenzollern on Minecraft 1.12.2

You will need to install 64-bit Java 1.8 to run this modpack. Oracle may give you 32-bit java by default. 64-bit java can be found here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html

Specifying the following command line options to technic is recommended to get the pack to load and play well:

-Xmx4G -Xmn2G -XX:PermSize=256m

-XX:MaxPermSize=512m

In addition, setting the amount of memory to 6GB if possible is required to run the full modpack. It may run better (or with additional textures we have included) with more than 6GB. If you do not have 6GB available, you will need to disable some mods or texture packs. The following mods can be disabled without affecting your ability to connect to Robot Rainbow servers.

Better Foliage, Chunk Animator, Dynamic Surroundings, InventoryTweaks, JEI, MapWriter, noRecipeBook, SoundFilters, HWYLA, WAILA Harvestability

If you run into crashes or 'Out of Memory' errors when creating single-player worlds or connecting to servers, be sure to try again. Both things are far more resource-intensive than normal gameplay, and repeated attempts are more likely to succeed as some of the work will have already been done during previous attempts. In addition, temporarily disabling the texture packs (below) may help. They can be re-enabled after the world is created or you have connected to a server.

Known issues

Multiblock structures that cross chunk boundaries sometimes disappear. These include but are not limited to pipes, wires and machines. We've reported these problems to the mekanism team but were basically laughed off their forum. So we really don't know what to do about this. We've also experienced it with ProjectRed pipes/wires. Maybe you could try reporting these problems as well if you experience them, and see if you have better luck than we did? We have not re-tested this bug since updating to a new version of Forge and Mekanism. It may be fixed, but caution is still advised. Chunks are 16x16 FYI, and pressing F3+G will bring up an overlay that shows you the boundaries.

Mapwriter doesn't work properly in Mystcraft dimensions and Advanced Rocketry planets.

Texture packs and Optifine

We suggest you install Optifine and the Soartex_Fanver vanilla and Soartex_Fanver_Modded_Universal texture pack for Minecraft 1.12.2. We use all 3 but cannot provide them in the modpack for licensing reasons. We suggest the following texture pack order:

Fanver_Modded_Mine_Rare.zip (if you have more than 6GB to run minecraft in)

Fanver_Modded_Mine.zip

Soartex_Fanver_Modded_Universal.zip

Soartex_Fanver.zip

Default

This is the order we use when recording. The textures we provide in Fanver_Modded_Mine and Fanver_Modded_Mine_Rare were either created by us, or if not, are not included in Soartex_Fanver_Modded_Universal though they have been included in past versions of Fanver_Modded_Universal. All are designed to look and work well with the textures in Soartex_Fanver_Modded_Universal. We will be glad to remove any of these textures from our packs if the Soartex_Fanver_Modded_Universal pack is updated to include them, but for now it does not. We have tried in the past to submit our own textures to Soartex Fanver for inclusion in their packs, but this has proved too time-consuming, it having been years since we submitted our textures and none of them have yet been included in the pack. If you are a representative of Soartex Fanver, we would love to have our textures included in your pack, but we have put exactly as much effort into this as we intend to put. They are here. You can download our pack and look at them, and put them in your pack if you care to. It's fine with us. And if and when you do we'll remove them from our pack. Until then, here they are.

Despite this, we support the work that the artists and admins associated with Soartex Fanver do, and suggest you also support their continuing efforts.

Getting Started

Many of the mods include informational in-game books. There are also many resources online; check the permissions page (above) or, failing that, Google. We're still exploring all the details of how they interact. We find that to start with Applied Energistics and Extra Utilities provide basic ore processing capabilities. Greater yield duplication can be achieved with Mekanism and Magneticraft, at the expense of greater resources. Want to craft on the go? Just right-click on a crafting table in your inventory! Good loot can be found at chests under infested greatwood trees. The upper levels of roguelike dungeons are relatively easy. Random Things generates chests randomly throughout the world. Mystcraft books can be used for a cheap transport system, though a trip to another dimensions will be required. Early-game disposable metal hammers can be made with 5 matching metal ingots thanks to Thermal Foundation. A Computercraft turtle makes a cheap quarry. Many edible plants and fish inhabit the world. Also, zombie flesh smelts into leather and can be dried into jerky on a drying rack. Want steel? You'll need a Metallurgic Infuser from Mekanism and plenty of coal, iron, and power. An Actually Additions Coal Generator is a good place to start for power. Treecapitation allows you to cut down whole trees with any axe. To break one log at a time, sneak while chopping.

Want to get started with a specific mod? Here are some tips:

Extra Utilities 2: You'll need redstone crystals which drop rarely from redstone ore. There is also a manual you can craft.

Thaumcraft: Mine some of the crystals that glow in caves. Then sleep on it.

Abyssalcraft: If you're not into Lovecraft, avoid Swamps, Rivers, and Darklands biomes.

Wizardry: Investigating the mana pools and wisdom trees that dot the landscape is a good place to start.

Rustic: If you can't plant it on grass, maybe you should make some kind of trellis? While foraging, try breaking vines as well as grass.

Applied Energistics 2: You'll need to find Certus Quartz and Meteors to get your computer up and running. In the meantime a Grinder can (almost) double ores for cheap.

Actually Additions: Craft any item from this mod (tiny coal or charcoal is easy and very useful) and you'll be given a manual for free!

The Aether: Just read those tips and tricks on the loading screen and you'll figure it out soon enough. A Slime Sling and a HangGlider are recommended for exploring it tho.

The Twilight Forest: Surround a 2x2 pool of water with flowers, throw in a diamond and be on your way!

Advanced Rocketry: You'll want a large factory building to house all the multiblocks this mod requires, which the Holoprojector will aid you in building.

Mystcraft: You'll want a source of black dye, leather and paper before trying this mod. Don't forget to make a linkbook to home before you leave!

Roguelike Dungeons: See a building, near but not in a village? Chances are that's the top of a dungeon! The upper floors can be easy, but the good loot is at the bottom and it's all to easy to get in over your head. A stack of blocks to close off corridors can be more useful than a sword and good armor. And these days you'll really want a shield.

Dimensional Doors: I don't know what you expect to find behind a magical door in the middle of the wilderness, but there's a chance you'll find it. There's also a good chance you'll get lost so, um, bring string? If you end up in Limbo, I'm no longer sure what to do I'm afraid. Used to be you just kept going down until it let you out. Not so anymore.
