Rainbow Robot for 1.12.2 Version 1.21

created by ghohenzollern on Minecraft 1.12.2

We found most packs concentrate on technology or magic, or if they have both are so big as to require the best hardware to run. So, we made a medium-sized pack with our favorite magic and tech mods.

Create and explore new dimensions with Mystcraft and Dimension Doors! Explore the magical Twilight Forest and the airy Aether, the insect-filled Erebus, or Landia, or make your own magic with Thaumcraft, Botania, Astral Sorcery and/or Wizardry! Or do both, if you dare, with the Lovecraftian Abyssalcraft. Mine and process all the ores (including Nether Ores) with Buildcraft, Mekanism and ActuallyAdditions! Sort the results in Iron Chests or with Project Red, Extrautils2 or Applied Energistics 2! Breed and farm useful plants with Animania, Agricraft, Forestry and Rustic! Make fancy tools with Tinkers' Construct! Crawl Roguelike and Dimensional dungeons for fat loot, or find Random Things scattered around the world! Build fancy buildings with Carpenter's Blocks, Openblocks and Forge Microblocks! Automate it all with ComputerCraft, Industrial Foregoing and Magneticraft! Generate the gobs of power that requires with Extra Utilities, Nuclearcraft, and Extreme Reactors! Or get away from it all in space with Advanced Rocketry. And watch us do it on youtube. See if you can do it better!

Also included are a bunch of new (and old) hi-res textures we made when we couldn't find ones online.

F.A.Q.

How do I get started with the pack or a specific mod?

Check the help section (button link above).

Why aren't all mods textured in high-res?

Large texture packs severely increase the amount of memory it takes to run the modpack. Our recording machines currently offer a maximum of 6GB of memory to run minecraft, so it was necessary that the pack run with that amount. We textured most things that appear in the world or that we plan to work with in the series, but some textures that appear more rarely we moved to a separate file called Fanver_Modded_Mine_Rare.zip which is included in the pack. If you have more than 6GB memory available you may be able to enable these additional textures. Regardless, once the modpack approached the 6GB limit, we basically stopped creating additional textures as such textures would never appear in our videos.

How do I load my Rainbow Robot 1.7.10 worlds into Rainbow Robot 1.12.2?

Rainbow Robot for 1.12.2 is an extended update of our old Rainbow Robot modpack for 1.7.10. We managed to translate our old recording world from 1.7.10 to 1.12.2. It was hard. Very hard. There was a lot of programming, testing, and troubleshooting involved. Even so, some things were lost in translation. If you are interested in how we did it or in trying it yourself, the place to talk about it is here:

Why doesn't Rainbow Robot for 1.12.2 have my favorite mod X, where X =

Optifine

We do not have pemission to distribute Optifine. We suggest you download the latest version for Minecraft 1.12.2. Having said that we are currently using version E2 and have not attempted to run with more recent versions. We use it when recording with the pack. We also find the included texture packs load more reliably with it installed.

Pam's Harvestcraft

We realize this is a very popular mod, but it adds so many additional items and blocks to the game we would have had to remove a large quantity of the mods in the pack in order to include it and meet our 6GB limit. Additionally we find the exceedingly large number of plants and foods an organizational nightmare that makes foraging unpleasant. So we have contented ourselves with the smaller number of plants and foods added by Actually Additions and Rustic.

JourneyMap

We do not have permission to distribute Journeymap. Additionally, we have had bad experiences with it in the past, having an untenably large footprint for a mapping mod. When we couldn't get voxelmap working with our 1.7.10 pack, we had to actually update our hardware just to get Journeymap to work with a pack that previously worked fine without it. We do not like Journeymap. But if you do, feel free to try to substitute it in for MapWriter. Who knows? It might work. And you should still be able to connect to any servers or such.

Thermal Expansion

Although Nether Ores required the inclusion of Thermal Foundation, we find the additional machines added by the other Thermal mods are largely superfluous given the other mods we already had in the pack. Leaving these out allowed us to include more diverse tech and magic mods in the pack.

WAILA

We had great difficulty getting the pack to work with WAILA (which last we checked was only available for 1.12.1). HWYLA proved basically the same only updated and much less troublesome.

VoxelMap / Liteloader Voxelmap is our favorite minecraft map mod, an we used to have it in our pack, but we have found that Liteloader, a mod that it requires, substantially increases load times, and was the source of the "Out Of Memory" errors we used to get when creating worlds and joining servers. Additionally it fails to load with the most recent recommended version of Forge. So, we have grudgingly therefore removed it from the pack, and replaced it with MapWriter.

NEI

We had great difficulty getting NEI to work with the pack, but very little trouble at all with JEI, so we substituted JEI.

Ender IO / Pneumaticraft / Plants / The Betweenlands / BloodMagic / Advanced Generators / Imersive Engineering / Biomes O' Plenty

We very much wanted to include these mods in the pack, but were unable to get it to load with them and high res textures.

Project E / Ex Nihilo

We include these mods in test-packs as accelerators to allow us to test things more quickly, but consider them too overpowered for a final pack not intended as a skyblock or challenge pack.

If your favorite mod is not on this list or in the pack, there is a small (VERY SMALL) possibility we may be able to add it to the pack and not run afoul of the 6GB limit. Feel free to suggest it, and if it looks like it has a small enough footprint, we might test it out and see.
