Planar Exodus 2 is now in development. This modpack is finished and will no longer receive updates.
===[ Overview ]===
Planar Exodus is a huge, sprawling modpack that (admittedly) is almost entirely devoid of rhyme or reason. The modpack features two main focuses: magic and technology. They can compliment and extend each other in many ways that may not seem obvious at first!
Planar Exodus is intended to be played as a freeform sandbox (even in survival mode), where the only true goals are the ones you set for yourself. There isn't any structured adventure content but there are enough mods with enough functionality to create almost anything you can imagine, that does just about anything.
Planar Exodus strives to present a sensible, fair modded Minecraft gameplay experience. Item balance, power balance and material balance are all important, but most crucial is that there are as few gameplay-ruining exploits as possible. A difficulty readme as well as a default set of options come alongside the modpack in its root directory.
Best played with friends. (Server package now available!)
===[ Random tidbits ]===
The name "Planar Exodus" is meant to imply that the Steves (i.e. the players) who play this modpack have departed from the normal plane of Minecraftian existence to pursue something greater. Or, it just sounds cool.
The icon for Planar Exodus is an artistic construction made to be the icon. Any similarities to the Metroid logo are coincidental. The logo for Planar Exodus is a snapshot of a rather interesting geometric GIF.

===[ Some history ]===
In the beginning, Planar Exodus ("Plex" for short) was created in the months after a previous modpack, SirTwinkles 11/13 fizzled out. With addtheletters not actively maintaining that pack, it fell behind the times and was lacking several important updates. Plex was originally an updated and renamed version of ST11/13, with the initial mods list based loosely on that pack. It was first used on a server hosted by bob_twinkles, and during that time it received a few major updates (up to Planar Exodus 1.3.3). However, at the time, Plex was a very unpolished pack, akin to a giant collection of mods barely roped together by config files.
This early form of Planar Exodus saw a second round of usage on another server hosted by bob_twinkes (on the same physical machine but with completely different people playing -- oddly enough not including Bob himself). During this time it received no updates and it fell dormant as the server petered out.
A few months passed and Plex was brought back a second time in early spring 2015 to be put to work on ashtheking's up and coming server. He had pitched the idea to his friends; when they asked for modded Minecraft as opposed to vanilla, Planar Exodus was overhauled and polished up for the new server -- which turned out to be the most active Plex server yet.
Ashtheking and Ozzatron then started cooperative, active development of the modpack and its unique PlexTweaks mod. Planar Exodus was updated over a dozen times over the lifetime of ashtheking's server, reaching version 1.5.2a. Likewise, PlexTweaks grew into a sprawling mass of inter-mod compatibility improvements and exploit fixes, alongside highly configurable custom content and tweaks.
Now, Planar Exodus (and its flagship mod PlexTweaks) have been brought to a new level with the 1.6.X update series.
