Have you ever just been playing Minecraft when you suddenly stood up, flipped the table, and kicked a puppy because it was too easy? Well now it's not! Presenting JustComputers, a gruelingly detailed dive into realistic(ish) computing and power production. Features mods that allow (force) you to use science and physics if you want to get anything out of them. Welcome back to school.
This pack is designed to be a look into realistic physics and science. To start, you'll need the normal survival resources you would scavenge for in any game. From there you have to build a source of electricity. But this isn't your average Minecraftian here's-a-battery-and-it-works-by-magic modpack. There is voltage, amperage, resistance, capacitance, and distribution and flow to think about.
Assuming you actually manage to generate decent power, now you can run electrical appliances like furnaces and lights. At this point, you can get into computers, which are also complex and realistic. You'll have to balance cpu, disk space, graphics cards, network cards, and other components with cost as you expand your computational frontier.
Welcome home, Applied Science Majors.
Included Mods:
OpenComputers by Sangar Contains computers that can run user-defined lua code on upgradeable, modular computers. Includes amazing features such as robots and drones, 3d printers, sensors, holograms, networking, and much much more. (Also, computers will resume where they left off in a program if their chunk gets unloaded. No more broken computers after visiting the nether or closing the game)
Electrical Age by ElectricalAge Contains hundreds of components to generate, regulate, and manipulate electricity using modern physics. Provides blocks for automated mining, smelting, logic and circuitry, and more. This mod is so realistic, it'll actually be difficult for you to produce power efficiently. Get ready to experience a college course in circuit analysis.
Hardcore Darkness by Lumien Sets the minimum brightness of blocks and the sky to zero (i.e. makes the game pitch black at night and underground in caves). Adds to the survival difficulty and realism, plus a reason to use some more stuff in Electric Age.
RealisticTorches by ChaosTheDude Makes the default recipes for torches instead give unlit torches, which must be lit with a matchbox or flint and steel. Once placed, they will eventually burn out and must be lit again. Vanilla torches (which don't burn out) can be crafted with a glowstone. Makes lighting up your base - and especially your mines/caves - much harder, and promotes you to use long-term alternatives like Electric Age lights and flashlights.
Not Enough Items by chicken_bones Gives you a UI in your inventory for searching blocks. Lets you easily see the recipe for any block (or give it to you in cheat mode). Provides controls for the weather, time, saving inventory and more.
WAILA by ProfMobius Shows a box on the top of the screen that tells you the name of the block you're looking at. Crazy useful for tech packs where there's fifty different shades of gray-cube-with-a-port-on-it and half of them are explosives.
Rei's Minimap by ReiFNSK Adds a minimap to the top right corner of the screen. Supports zooming and waypoints, which can help you keep track of important locations, especially areas you keep hidden. Allows teleporting to waypoints if you're an op.
