**Update 2026-04-05:** Microsoft has resolved the false positive with our installer as of the antivirus definition 1.447.161.0.
**TL;DR:** If you use Technic Launcher on Windows, please switch to the new Windows installer: [download it here](https://mirror.technicpack.net/TechnicLauncherBootstrap.exe). It installs the launcher together with the Java runtime it needs, gives us a much cleaner repair and update path, and is now the recommended way for Windows users to run Technic.
For a long time, the Windows Technic experience was mostly "download the EXE and go." That was simple, but it also meant installs could end up depending on whatever Java happened to already be on the machine, plus whatever old files were left behind from previous setups.
The new installer gives us a cleaner baseline. It installs the launcher, installs the matching Java runtime it needs, creates shortcuts, and makes the whole setup much easier for us to support long-term.
## Why switch?
- **No separate Java setup** — the installer brings the runtime Technic needs with it.
- **More reliable repairs and updates** — if something gets out of sync, we have a much better path to fix it.
- **A more normal Windows install** — shortcuts and uninstall behavior work the way you'd expect.
- **Better long-term support** — this is the Windows setup we want users on going forward.
## Already using Technic on Windows?
That's fine. Just close the launcher and run the new installer. In most cases, switching over should be straightforward, and once you do, you'll be on the setup we recommend for Windows going forward.
The older standalone Windows download is not disappearing overnight, but if you're on Windows, this is the version you should be using from now on.

The end of Mojang accounts is approaching, so if you haven't migrated your Mojang account to a Microsoft account, you will want to do that.
You have until September 19, 2023, at 11:00 am EST/17:00 pm CEST to migrate your account, after which you will be unable to migrate your Mojang account via the vanilla launcher or Minecraft.net. Minecraft Support will also be unable to help you after that.
Read more details at and .
**As a reminder, this is not something that Technic controls or can help you with. If you have issues logging into your Microsoft account in Technic Launcher *after* you migrated, please head over to #tech-help in our Discord server.** (There's a quick self-help in the pinned messages if you don't feel like waiting)
We've released build 805 of the launcher.
This build fixes an issue where the minecraft.jar for the modpack would not regenerate properly when the modpack version changed, which could result in strange issues. **If you're having issues just reinstall the modpack (Modpack Options -> Reinstall Pack) so it regenerates manually.**
We've also removed some very old fallback code that used the Mojang S3 repo, which should affect absolutely no one.
Don't forget to migrate your Mojang account if you haven't already:
From :
> Starting September 19, 2023, at 11:00 am EST/17:00 pm CEST, unmigrated Mojang accounts will not be able to sign in to Minecraft.net or the Minecraft Launcher to migrate. We’re doing this to ensure that everyone is playing using accounts with improved security and player safety. In addition, starting September 5, 2023 – two weeks prior to the end of the migration – support will no longer be able to assist in any MSA migration-related tickets.
From :
> Note: The last call for migration is September 19th, 2023. Once the deadline for migration is reached, players will no longer be able to access unmigrated accounts. **All unmigrated accounts will be deleted** at a future date.
As a reminder, Mojang accounts already don't support multiplayer.
